New year - new update!

Happy 2018! Thank you to everyone for your continued love and support of my sweet family! Many have been asking what's going on with J's foster-situation and possible adoption. So - time for a recap and an update!!
In December we had a home visit from an adoption counselor through the DSS where our little dude is from. We had a visit from an adoption worker at the beginning of January, she will be writing a report to go along with our filing for adoption. We have filled out a few papers and sent them along. They will be sent to a negotiator. (Again, I'll spare you the details.) Once this person is done we'll hear from the DSS again and will be able to sign an Adoption Agreement. Once this is signed - the place we have fostered through, People Places, will not be working with this case anymore. (But is already asking if we plan to continue fostering - the need is so great!!) The Adoption Agreement is pretty much our intent to adopt J and the DSS saying that, unless something crazy happens (which it really shouldn't), J is ours. That is not the final step, it's like a new "first step." After that comes a lawyer, more paperwork, and the always so fun - waiting game. However - the great news is - that we should have legal custody of J sometime this summer!!!!!! It could be before that - but I'd rather plan for a longer process than a shorter one. And don't you worry - once this little dude who God gave to us becomes ours legally - we'll party it up!
It's been a crazy ride this past year... Kearby and I got engaged, we found out there would be a change in the goals for J's case, Kearby and I both started new jobs, Kearby and I got married and moved Kearby into this crazy house, and sadly, our sweet Cooper passed away. I never knew that God would bring my family together the way that God has - it certainly continues to be a wild ride but I would never change it!
Love from the Chen family!!

ps- Kearby and I are BOTH taking Master's level courses this semester (him from UVA, me from WTS). We welcome your prayers and support to help us get through without losing it!!
